First off, I want to wish all the readers a Happy New Year 2026! I hope you were able to spend time with family and friends this season.
As we gather the data from the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (which ended on December 7th) we are seeing some stand-out plan features that meant the most to clients.
The Max-Out-Of-Pocket was probably the biggest reason for change of plans (MOOP for short). The highest in-network MOOP allowed in 2026 is $9,250, yet several plans have a MOOP almost half that amount. Many Medicare Advantage Consumers don’t pay attention to this dollar amount, but it is important! The MOOP signals the most one would pay in collective medical cost for the calendar year.
If you did reach the Medical Max Out of Pocket, then you would no longer be required to pay any medical cost for the remainder of the calendar year.
The Medicare Advantage MOOP is your “worst case scenario” in medical spending for the calendar year. The lower this number is, the better!
The next big reason why more than half of Medicare Beneficiaries in America are turning to Medicare Advantage is Doctor Acceptance.
Most doctors are now taking Medicare Advantage. No longer are you having to choose between your insurance company and your doctor. It has taken time to get to this point. I’ve seen this change in just the past 10 years, really. This brings a level of comfort to Medicare Advantage clients to know their doctors are already a contracted provider with the insurance they choose.
As medical cost and Medicare Supplement Premiums go up, the $0 Monthly Premium on most Medicare Advantage plans gains a lot of attention. This becomes a big reason clients go with a Medicare Advantage plan, rather than Original Medicare and a Medicare Supplement plan.
I believe the future is bright for Medicare Advantage plans and the consumers that choose to take “advantage” of it. Insurance companies are getting more competitive with their benefits, including extra dental and vision benefits, preventive health rewards programs, and providing better tips and encouragement on how to have a healthier quality of life.
