How Much Does Medicare Cost In 2026

How Much Does Medicare Cost In 2026

If you're wondering how much Medicare costs in 2026, you're not alone. Whether you live in Alpharetta, Georgia, elsewhere in Georgia, or anywhere in the United States, your Medicare costs are generally the same, with the exception of Medicare Supplement premiums, which vary by location, age, and other factors.

Medicare Part A Cost

For most people, Medicare Part A is $0 per month because they paid Medicare taxes (FICA) for at least 40 quarters (10 years) while working.

If you don't qualify for premium-free Part A, you may have a monthly premium based on your work history.

Medicare Part B Cost

The standard Medicare Part B premium is $202.90 per month in 2026.

Some individuals pay more due to IRMAA (Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount). IRMAA applies to:

  • Individuals with a Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) above $109,000
  • Married couples filing jointly with a MAGI above $218,000

See the current IRMAA chart to determine whether the income surcharge applies to you.

Every Medicare Beneficiary Pays These Costs

No matter which Medicare coverage option you choose, you will continue to pay:

  • Medicare Part A premium (usually $0)
  • Medicare Part B premium ($202.90 per month for most people in 2026)

Medicare Cost for higher income earners.

After that, you have two primary ways to receive your Medicare benefits.

Option 1: Medicare Supplement (Medigap) + Stand-Alone Part D Drug Plan

Many people choose to pair Original Medicare with a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan and a stand-alone Medicare Part D prescription drug plan.

Medicare Supplement Costs

Average monthly premiums for a 65-year-old in 2026 are approximately:

  • Plan G: Around $180 per month
  • Plan N: Around $120 per month

These are estimated averages. Your actual premium depends on your age, ZIP code, tobacco status, insurance company, and other factors.

If you'd like a personalized Medicare Supplement quote in Georgia, contact SeniorSource Medicare Solutions.

Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan Costs

Many Medicare Part D prescription drug plans have a $0 monthly premium in 2026, although plan availability varies by ZIP code and medications.

Why Choose a Medicare Supplement?

Although your monthly premium is typically higher, your out-of-pocket medical costs are usually much lower when you receive healthcare services. Many people appreciate the predictable costs and flexibility to see providers who accept Medicare.

Option 2: Medicare Advantage (Part C)

Most Medicare Advantage plans include prescription drug coverage and have a $0 monthly premium in 2026.

Because these plans generally have little or no monthly premium beyond your Part B premium, you'll usually pay copays, coinsurance, or deductibles when you receive medical services.

Why Choose Medicare Advantage?

Medicare Advantage plans often appeal to people who prefer:

  • Low monthly premiums
  • Built-in prescription drug coverage
  • Extra benefits such as dental, vision, hearing, fitness memberships, and over-the-counter allowances (depending on the plan)

The tradeoff is that you'll generally have higher out-of-pocket costs as you use healthcare throughout the year.

Which Medicare Option Is Best?

There isn't a one-size-fits-all answer.

  • If you value predictable healthcare costs and maximum provider flexibility, a Medicare Supplement may be the better choice.
  • If keeping your monthly premium low is your priority, a Medicare Advantage plan may be a better fit.

The right Medicare plan depends on your health, budget, prescriptions, travel habits, and personal preferences.
